Join Us in Celebrating Refugee Week

Saturday 20 June 2026, Cambridge Central Library

11am – 3pm

Join us on Saturday 20 June 2026 at Cambridge Central Library for the Refugee Week Community Fair. Discover the inspiring projects our groups have created together, explore our exhibition, and enjoy a special story reading by some cast members of The Gruffalo.

Refugee Week is a major international arts and culture festival celebrating the contributions, resilience, and creativity of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. This year, the theme for Refugee Week is COURAGE.

COURAGE – coming from the Latin cor, meaning "heart" – calls us to come together and share the courage to welcome everyone open-armed, stand for kindness, and celebrate culture and community.

Cambridge has held official City of Sanctuary status for over a decade, and the Refugee Week Community Fair will celebrate the many local organisations and community groups that continue to make this possible!

This is a free community event, and everyone is warmly welcome. There’s no need to book – simply come along! There will be lots of different activities spanning embroidery to family crafts to board games.

Storytime for Families

We are very excited to announce that we will be joined in the afternoon by some cast members... or should I say woodland creatures... from The Gruffalo at Cambridge Central Library. This will be a very special story time session for families and children. We warmly welcome you to join us for giggles, suspense, and possibly some mousey mischief!

A Special Exhibition

We are also thrilled to be putting on a special exhibition showcasing the artwork our young people have created in collaboration with Cambridge Curiosity and Imagination. We are so happy to celebrate and share their beautiful work produced as part of a 9-week programme to embed creative practice into ESOL learning.

11:00am – 3:00pm

Simple Acts are everyday actions we can all do to stand with refugees and other people seeking sanctuary. This year, they’ve been brought to life by the wonderful illustrator Quentin Blake.
